A transatlantic transmission – crossing oceans and traversing time zones, this online screening event pairs artists films and videos from the City of Saints with those from the home of the industrial revolution. These video correspondences encourage dialogue between the cities by coupling two distinct artistic visions and placing them next to each other – one moving image artwork from each city.
Although the works were informed by unique sets of cultural and sociopolitical circumstances, through this alignment we can draw new connections between them – revealing important differences and surreal similarities.
Transmission transatlantique traversant les océans et les fuseaux horaires, cet évènement de projection en ligne associe les films et vidéos d’artistes de la Ville des saints (City of Saints) à ceux réalisés dans le berceau même de la révolution industrielle. Ces correspondances encouragent le dialogue entre les deux villes en couplant deux visions artistiques distinctes.
Deux oeuvres, issues de chacune des deux villes, sont présentées côte-à-côte, illustrées par une image en mouvement représentative de chacune des villes. Bien que les œuvres soient inspirées d’un ensemble de circonstances culturelles et sociopolitiques singulières, cette composition permet d’établir de nouveaux liens entre elles, révélant des différences importantes et des similitudes surréelles.
